# General Overview This section provides a conceptual overview of RegionMatch. It explains what similarity means, which aspects are compared, and how results should be interpreted -- without going into technical or mathematical details. If you want to understand what RegionMatch is actually comparing, this page is the right place to start. ## What does "similarity" mean in RegionMatch? In RegionMatch, similarity describes how closely regions resemble each other across a set of selected indicators. It does **not** mean that two regions are identical. Instead, regions are considered similar if they share comparable characteristics across several aspects, including: * climate conditions * sociodemographic structures * orography * land use composition By deliberately combining these four complementary aspects -- climate, sociodemography, orography, and land use -- RegionMatch goes beyond climate-only comparisons. The core idea is simple: Regions with similar structural and environmental conditions often face similar challenges. Comparing such regions therefore provides a solid basis for learning from each other and identifying transferable adaptation measures. ## From similarity to practical insight RegionMatch is designed to support practical decision-making, not just analysis. Users can explicitly choose how many similar regions (N) they want to explore. For each region, RegionMatch provides links to implemented adaptation measures.
